As we stated in the past, the surveillance state juggernaut deeply concerning.
That’s not to say that the people who participate in it are bad people. I grew up around spook culture and I can tell you that many of the people who work for the NSA, or the CIA, or whatever agency are perfectly decent people who feel that they are just doing their job. It is the institutions which are of particular concern.
Like any government bureaucracy those within the surveillance state, which includes government but also includes private companies which make billions from the surveillance state, tend to grow, year in and year out. But unlike most government bureaucracies the surveillance state grows in secret. It also has vast power to affect the lives of everyday individual citizens. Much more so than the EPA or the Department of Education for instance. This power, this secret power, is very dangerous.
